Coaching is all about change - about being "at choice" - which means recognizing that even if we don't realize it, in every moment we are making active choices about how we are in the world and what we do.
Choices like: how do I show up in a meeting with my direct reports? Do I get enough sleep? Do I exercise as much as I want to? Am I keeping the promises I make myself? Am I living into my values and what makes my life more satisfying?
For me, all of this can feel a little serious and maybe locked a bit into my thinking brain. So I find that for me, music can be a thing that keeps me feeling inspired, motivated, and forward-leaning.
Music is also great because it keeps me in the here-and-now moment and grounded in my body (particularly when dancing around my living room!) It's hard to be worrying about the thing I did yesterday that wasn't perfect or planning for the meeting I have to do tomorrow when I'm belting out the lyrics to Pink's "Courage."
Songs also can be a lovely way of locking in a way of being that you want to be able to tap into more easily. Maybe you listen to a bit of a song to tap into a strong & centered part of yourself before heading into a complicated conversation or meeting. Or maybe there is a particular song that helps you get in touch with an edgier or more playful part of yourself.
